We are looking for a dynamic professional to manage a dual-focus role that blends ongoing monthly accounting responsibilities with strategic financial advisory work for our clients. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting organizations through both accurate financial reporting and impactful financial guidance. The individual will ensure that clients financial operations run smoothly while also providing insights that drive strategic decision-making.
You will be responsible for managing routine accounting functions, such as preparing financial statements, handling reconciliations, and ensuring compliance. Simultaneously, you will engage in advisory projects, including strategic financial planning, budgeting, variance analysis, and consulting on best practices. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting, an aptitude for strategic thinking, and strong communication skills to effectively convey complex financial information to diverse stakeholders.
Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP for nonprofits). Prepare and deliver clear and actionable financial reports, providing insights into key performance metrics, variances, and forecasts.
Strategic Financial Advisory: Guide clients through financial strategy planning, identifying growth opportunities, and optimizing financial operations.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist clients in developing and managing budgets, offering guidance on financial projections and variance analysis. Provide expertise on budget software like Martus and help with training and implementation.
Compliance & Grant Management: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including IRS guidelines for nonprofits. Provide support for grant reporting, fund tracking, and the preparation of necessary filings such as 990s.
Event & Program Analysis: Conduct strategic reviews of events or programs, evaluating their financial impact and advising on cost-saving and revenue-generating opportunities.
Training & Capacity Building: Educate nonprofit boards and management teams on financial best practices, tools, and systems to improve financial literacy and sustainability.
Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing personalized and responsive service. Act as a trusted advisor on financial matters and proactively address client needs.
Qualifications of the Senior Accountant:
A Bachelors Degree in Accounting
CPA or CFA licensure required
A minimum of five years general accounting experience
Public accounting experience strongly preferred
Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Extensive experience with data management, record keeping and web-based applications
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and QuickBooks Online
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
Experience in audit preparation
Ability to function well in a team-oriented virtual environment
The desire and ability to become proficient with SAGE Intacct and other third-party applications
The ability to work from home professionally and independently
Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $91,000 - $98,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and support opportunities for growth and advancement within our organization.
