Senior Business Intelligence Analyst
Posted 2025-05-18Performing as a solution and operations leader, under minimal supervision, responsible for a variety of tasks related to: designing, developing, coding, recording, and capturing and extracting data from the Energy Management Database System (EMDS) electronic communication and data from DME energy portfolio management operations, market fundamentals, energy market and associated ERCOT reported data. This role has 2 primary functions that can separated; one is the active management of database and systems to support capture, storage, maintenance and organization of data/systems and secondly the extraction and reporting of data and their solutions in order to facilitate value added decision making and operations from various business users.
Essential Job Functions:
In a leadership capacity, analyzes, designs, tests and implements applications for the EMO as requested by Market Analytics Manager, Market Operations Manager, and other Analysts
In a leadership capacity, build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL Server, PostgreSQL, T-SQL, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
In a leadership capacity, identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
In a leadership capacity, work with stakeholders including the Product, Data, Design, Frontend and Backend teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
In a leadership capacity, write complex T-SQL, PL/SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, cursors in SQL Server, SSIS and PostgreSQL
In a leadership capacity, Analyze the long running queries/functions/procures, design and develop performance optimization strategy
In a leadership capacity, expert in ETL process i.e. cleaning data and importing from and to multiple data sources using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
In a leadership capacity, develops and leads test plans for all phases of database testing, outside vendor supplied program acceptance testing and implementation
In a leadership capacity, develops and performs in conjunction with Energy Management staff, solution and application development through entire lifecycle including: coding, testing, debugging, documentation, modification, and reporting.
In a leadership capacity, leads the maintenance and modification of existing code to conform to ongoing system and/or business requirements
In a leadership capacity, design and lead the design and implementation of statistical reporting techniques and solutions, web-based interfaces, data retrieval tools, etc., as requested by the Market Analytics Manager, Market Operations Manager, and other Analysts for analysis of the energy market
In a leadership capacity, lead and ensure data integrity and accuracy through data audits
Serve as the technical lead and primary contact for DMEs EMO with ERCOT, and stay abreast of all changes regarding electronic interchange of energy market data. Represent the EMO at ERCOT regarding market design and developments for data delivery and formatting.
In a leadership capacity, lead user training and support for in-house programs.
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field with 5 or more years experience;
OR
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Competencies:
Knowledge of wholesale fuel, electric markets
Expert in cleaning data and importing from and to multiple data sources using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
Expertise in relational and multidimensional database queries
Expertise in database objects, schema, tables and dictionaries and table/database structures
Expert in writing and troubleshoot stored procs, functions, views, triggers, indexes, constraints etc
Understanding of database objects (entities, attributes, constraints, relationships, joins, etc.)
Expertise with Business Intelligence lifecycle, designing and planning BI solutions using TSQL and ETL process using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
Design, maintain and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL
Experience with business intelligence tools such as SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
Promotes a constructive, positive team environment and maintains a spirit of openness, problem-solving and support for common goals
Knowledge of the following languages: C#, Java, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, T-SQL, PowerShell
Knowledge of NorthStar Utilities Solutions for billing and rates
Knowledge of Meter Data Management Systems such as ITRON(IEE)

Must have and maintain a valid Class C Drivers License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class C drivers license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
